lions for lambs

**disclaimer:this is a reflection on the state of the American church not one particular church.

I watched the movie lions for lambs tonight. We will leave the politics of the movie for another day. I, on the other hand, want to talk for second about the title of the movie and its origin. During the movie we get one of those title-of-the-movie-in-the-movie moments. Robert Redford's character tells how during WWII German soldiers, who respected their their British counterparts, wondered on the idiocy of their superiors. The Germans would remark "Never before have such lions been led by such lambs."

That line lays out for me the feeling I have regarding church members of their leadership. I am gonna take Church Staff out of the picture for a moment and look at the real leaders of the church, those men and women who "will be there long after the pastor leaves."

It seems to me that the church is full of lions. Very seldom have I ever encountered a large groups of church members who would not charge the enemy lines, much like the thousands of ill-fated British soldiers. They are willing; they are hungry to do things for the kingdom. However, so ofter I see the leadership who simply lead them to the "slaughter." Instead of equipping them for great things, they lead them to build softball fields or they worry about financial numbers and attendance numbers. The leadership is responsible for slaughtering the excitement and dreams of the membership.

It is time for the leadership to LEAD the lambs to greatness not just mediocrity.

just my two cents
